Diez meses despu\u00e9s de asumir el cargo de editor ejecutivo de The New York Times, Joe Kahn reflexion\u00f3 el 15 de abril en el Simposio Internacional de Periodismo Online (ISOJ) en Austin sobre la transici\u00f3n digital y la diversidad en la redacci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

En una sesi\u00f3n moderada por <\/span>Evan Smith<\/span><\/a>, cofundador y asesor principal del <\/span>Texas Tribune<\/span><\/a>, y asesor principal del Emerson Collective, Kahn dijo que su liderazgo estar\u00e1 marcado por centrarse en aumentar la cultura y la diversidad de la redacci\u00f3n y en impulsar su transici\u00f3n a las plataformas digitales.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Una de las principales prioridades del New York Times es seguir encontrando modelos informativos sostenibles. De momento, va por buen camino. En febrero de 2022, la organizaci\u00f3n de noticias alcanz\u00f3 su objetivo de<\/span> 10 millones de suscriptores<\/span><\/a> tres a\u00f1os antes de lo previsto. Ahora, el Times est\u00e1 en camino de atraer a 15 millones de suscriptores a sus plataformas para 2027.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kahn afirma que el Times est\u00e1 trabajando para alcanzar ese objetivo dando prioridad a los paquetes de noticias que complementan su cobertura informativa tradicional con contenidos m\u00e1s especializados, como el sitio de deportes The Athletic y el sitio de rese\u00f1as de productos Wirecutter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aumentar la diversidad<\/span><\/h3>\n

Adem\u00e1s, el New York Times tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 trabajando para aumentar la diversidad de su plantilla en t\u00e9rminos de etnia, raza, ubicaci\u00f3n geogr\u00e1fica y procedencia. Para 2025, ser\u00e1 un tercio\u201d, dijo Smith. \u201cEstamos en una situaci\u00f3n realmente mala, y la consecuencia de ello es que tenemos dos Am\u00e9ricas. Tenemos una informada y otra no\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

En un esfuerzo por cerrar esa brecha, el Times no s\u00f3lo est\u00e1 contratando empleados de procedencias m\u00e1s diversas, sino que tambi\u00e9n se est\u00e1 centrando en retenerlos. Kahn dijo que la estrategia de la organizaci\u00f3n consiste en detectar el talento period\u00edstico en las primeras etapas de su carrera y luego fomentar su crecimiento.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
