“Abraji [Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism] condemns the censorship imposed through a court ruling ordering the removal from the internet of an ICL Notícias report that included an audio message sent by federal lawmaker Nikolas Ferreira to [imprisoned banker] Daniel Vorcaro.

In the audio message, sent in March 2025, Ferreira asks the banker to intervene to release a mining asset for a friend of the lawmaker.

The lawmaker’s request was partially granted by Judge Jair Francisco dos Santos, who had previously handled another case involving the lawmaker and issued a ruling in his favor. In a statement, ICL noted that the lawmaker did not provide any documentation to support his account, nor did the judge base his ruling on a technical analysis.

The decision to remove news content from the internet is extremely concerning because it directly affects society’s constitutional right to be informed about relevant facts, particularly those involving public officials and elected politicians. […] Abraji expresses its solidarity with the ICL Notícias team and hopes Brazil’s judiciary will review the order to remove the content as soon as possible.”
