“Ecuavisa, one of Ecuador’s largest television networks, denounced on Friday [June 20] what it described as government retaliation against one of its journalists, after he investigated alleged irregularities in contracts signed during the country’s 2024 electricity crisis that allegedly involved senior government officials.
The journalist, Hernán Higuera, said his wife was dismissed from her job at a state-owned company, while his son was suspended from his medical training position at a public hospital […]. 'Ecuavisa is deeply concerned that journalistic work now also exposes our reporters’ family members and other people close to them to retaliation, even though they have nothing to do with our news coverage,' a network anchor said.
