"The house illegally occupied by the Ortega-Murillo regime's police belonging to Nicaraguan photojournalist Oswaldo Rivas appeared a few days ago for sale on the Encuentra24 platform at a price of USD $255,000. The advertiser identifies himself on the application as Moreno Merlo, a real estate agent who has 77 other property listings for sale.
From exile in the United States, Rivas saw the advertisement, which appears updated on May 28, 2026, and says he does not know who is behind the sale of his house.
Rivas clarifies that he attempted to sell the house shortly before going into exile in 2024, but did not find a buyer and abandoned the idea. His surprise was seeing that now another unknown person is the one selling his property and even used the same photos that he had published to offer it.
Oswaldo Rivas is a photojournalist with nearly 40 years of experience. When the 2018 political crisis erupted, he was working for the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency and covered the demonstrations against the Ortega-Murillo regime. The persecution against him began on June 4, 2024, when police officers prohibited him from doing his job at the Granada Cathedral alongside a foreign journalist, where they were preparing a report about the Catholic Church."
