The Paraguayan state held a public act of international recognition and redress Monday for the murder of journalist Santiago Leguizamón Zaván, complying with a ruling by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights that declared state responsibility and cited decades of impunity.
The public ceremony took place Monday morning at the Palace of Justice, fulfilling the sentence issued against the Paraguayan state in the case titled Leguizamón Zaván et al. v. Paraguay.
The event responds to the verdict issued by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) on Nov. 15, 2022, which established Paraguay's international responsibility for the reporter's murder and the total impunity surrounding the crime for decades.”
