“The team from news site Criterio.hn made public a new escalation of online attacks they are receiving. They reported some of their social media profiles have been subjected to the systematic removal of content through claims for alleged copyright infringements, in a pattern that could amount to indirect censorship and illegitimate restriction on the exercise of freedom of expression and of the press.
According to the media outlet, at least 14 of their publications hosted on Instagram were recently removed as a consequence of 'copyright claims,' despite the material being produced entirely by its staff journalists, including original interviews, recordings, graphic designs, and editing processes developed by Criterio.hn. The outlet maintains the claims lack foundation and that they are highly questionable as there are no third-party owners to the content in question.
The situation acquires greater significance because the deleted publications addressed matters of obvious public interest related to government decisions and national political debates.”
