ICE detains Venezuelan journalist Wilmer Solano in Miami Beach

“Agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained Venezuelan journalist Wilmer Solano on Sunday, July 26, while he was working in Miami Beach. Official details regarding the grounds for the immigration enforcement action have not been released.

Solano, who has resided in the United States since 2015, is currently pursuing political asylum, holds a valid work permit, and possesses a valid Florida driver's license. According to close associates, he has no criminal record in either Venezuela or the U.S.

With a career spanning over 20 years, Solano worked at Globovisión between 2002 and 2008, covering political and community beats. He later founded and directed the agency Zorro Comunicaciones, where he covered political campaigns for prominent opposition figures including Julio Borges, Henrique Capriles, Carlos Ocariz, and Ramón Muchacho.”
