“Reporters Without Borders (RSF) warned Sunday [Aug. 30], International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, about the increase in this crime against journalists in different regions of the world and said that at least 46 media professionals are victims of enforced disappearance, including six in Mexico.
According to the organization, of the 137 journalists who are currently missing worldwide, at least one-third are victims of enforced disappearance. The cases involve investigations in 22 countries across four continents, including Mexico, Burundi, Palestine and Burkina Faso.

In the case of Mexico, RSF said that at least six journalists who are victims of enforced disappearance remain missing. ‘Enforced disappearance is not necessarily committed by a central government, but it is always carried out, at a minimum, with its complicity or tacit approval,’ the organization said, describing Mexico as ‘emblematic’ in this regard.”
