“Supreme Deputy Prosecutor Edward Casaverde has accused journalist Gustavo Gorriti, director of IDL-Reporteros, of committing the crime of specific active bribery. According to a report Casaverde submitted to Attorney General Tomás Gálvez, Gorriti allegedly used his ties to prosecutors Rafael Vela and José Domingo Pérez to steer the Cocteles Case, an investigation in which President-elect Keiko Fujimori was the main defendant. The accusation comes months after Casaverde himself decided to close the same case.
The offense Gorriti is accused of carries a prison sentence of five to eight years. Under the law, it consists of offering or giving something of value to a judge or prosecutor to influence their decisions. In this case, prosecutors claim Vela and Pérez benefited from coverage by IDL-Reporteros and that, in exchange, the outlet received confidential information about ongoing investigations.
Casaverde had closed the same investigation in December 2025. At the time, he concluded that the allegations against Gorriti did not have criminal relevance.”
