"On June 12, 2026, [Peru's] Congress approved the report of an investigative commission regarding the effective collaboration agreement signed in 2019 between the Peruvian State and the Brazilian company Odebrecht, which had confessed to paying bribes to secure public works contracts. The report recommends that the Public Prosecutor's Office initiate criminal proceedings against journalist Gustavo Gorriti and the magistrates who negotiated the agreement, which it deemed detrimental to the State's interests.
IPYS [the Press and Society Institute] considers the allegations against Gorriti—who played no part in the negotiations—to be unfounded. In his capacity as director of the investigative news outlet IDL-Reporteros, Gorriti reported on and offered editorial commentary regarding the agreement, exercising his freedom of expression."
