RSF investigates how the Foundation Against Terrorism pressures journalists in Guatemala

"If you look closely at the threats facing Guatemalan journalists, one name repeatedly emerges: the Foundation Against Terrorism (FCT). Due to its intensifying abusive legal proceedings and online hate campaigns, the organisation has become emblematic of the repression targeting people who fight corruption, including journalists.

Since 2022, the FCT has played a central role in the prosecution of the country’s best-known investigative journalist, Jose Rubén Zamora, director of the daily newspaper elPeriódico. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) investigated the FCT’s tactics at a time when the organisation has been weakened by the appointment of a new attorney general.
