Mexican journalist Alan García Zúñiga released 11 days after being abducted

“Journalist Alan García Zúñiga was released the morning of Sunday [Feb. 2] after being abducted on Jan. 22 in Poza Rica, Veracruz [Mexico]. In a press release, the State Commission for the Attention and Protection of Journalists (CEAPP, by its Spanish acronym) said that, thanks to a joint operation between federal and state authorities, García Zúñiga was rescued.

After his rescue, he was taken to a health institution for a medical evaluation and is currently in the custody of his family.

'The CEAPP maintains close coordination with the Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) to ensure proper follow-up to the case,' the organization said.”
