“Argentina's president, Javier Milei, rejoiced on Saturday [March 1] for having withdrawn state advertising from the country's media, and said that they do not need ‘liar journalists paid with public funds.’

'We completely eliminated official advertising, which was used by the [political elite] to promote themselves in the media. We don't need to bribe the media, we don't need liar journalists paid with public funds,' Milei said as he celebrated one of the controversial measures he put into practice when he became president in December 2023.

This measure has placed the Argentine media and job stability in the sector in a very complicated financial situation. The situation has been further exacerbated by the closure of the state news agency Télam."
