"The Coalition in Defense of Journalism (CDJor) was received this Thursday, March 13, by the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski. They discussed the main challenges of protecting journalists and communicators in Brazil today: the increase in physical aggression, the intensification of judicial harassment and hostility with gender and racial content, which mainly affects female journalists, LGBTQIA+ and Black professionals on social media.
The minister stated that the government is committed to the operation of the National Observatory of Violence Against Journalists. The public policy was created in January 2023, after the attempted coup that culminated in violence against dozens of journalists, but it hasn't been fully implemented.
