Brazilian government recognizes journalist Vladimir Herzog as political amnesty recipient post mortem

"The Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship (MDHC, for its initials in Portuguese), through the Amnesty Commission, recognized journalist Vladimir Herzog as a political amnesty recipient post mortem. The decision was published in the Official Gazette of the Union this Tuesday (March 18). The journalist was tortured and killed by the military dictatorship in 1975.

Vladimir Herzog's widow, Clarice Herzog, will be granted a monthly pension for life in the amount of R$34,577.89. The financial compensation of an indemnifying nature is in compliance with the court decision issued by the 2nd Federal Civil Court of the Judicial Section of the Federal District.

In April 2024, the Amnesty Commission had already granted the status of political amnesty and made an apology on behalf of the Brazilian State to Clarice Herzog for the persecution she suffered for years."
