“The way children and adolescents are portrayed in the media often sparks uncertainty and concern. There are valid worries about respecting their values, beliefs, and above all, their right to privacy. However, it is possible to include their voices safely and responsibly to ensure their protection and meaningful participation.
With this goal in mind, Fundación Gabo and the NiñezYA coalition have published the ‘Decálogo para un periodismo garante de los derechos de la niñez’ — ten principles for journalism that upholds children’s rights. The guide was developed after the discussion ‘Children Have the Floor,’ held during the 2024 Gabo Festival in Bogotá.”
