"More than 200 journalists from 23 countries, belonging to international organizations and independent media outlets, signed a statement released on Wednesday [April 23] warning that a recently passed law in Peru threatens to 'control journalistic activity.'
Under the title 'Peru: Journalism Under Censorship,' the signatories reject Law 32301, known as the 'Anti-NGO Law,' as it provides for greater control over international cooperation funds in the country, which are used by independent media outlets, among others.
'Journalism in Peru faces one of the greatest threats in recent decades, following the passage of a law whose effects include prior state control of journalistic activities, violation of the right to professional secrecy, and disproportionate sanctions for activities described in the law in vague terms,' the statement reads."
