"The Gabo Foundation announces Laura Zommer (Argentina), the media outlet Armando.info (Venezuela) and Patrícia Campos Mello (Brazil) as winners of the 2025 Recognition of Excellence Gabo Award, for their courage, rigor and commitment to defend the truth in a regional and global context marked by disinformation, censorship and attacks on the free press.
The Governing Council of the Gabo Prize —composed of 13 leading figures in Ibero-American journalism— made the exceptional decision to award the prize to three winners for the first time, in the year the foundation celebrates its 30th anniversary. It is a tribute to three careers that, ‘from different fronts, represent the same battle: journalism that confronts lies, corruption and the violence of organized crime and of a new power that seeks to annihilate democracy and freedoms,’ as stated in the award announcement.
