Costa Rican State condemned for violating press freedom at presidential press conferences

"The Constitutional Chamber upheld an appeal for protection filed by journalists David Bolaños Acuña, David Chavarría Hernández, and Héctor Guzmán Suárez and the College of Journalists (Colper, for its acronym in Spanish) against the Costa Rican State for violating their freedom of the press and obstructing journalistic work at press conferences held by the Presidency, and ordered the State to pay costs, damages and losses.

It involves two incidents that occurred last year, during the regular press conferences the Presidential Office organizes at the Presidential Palace every Wednesday. [...]

Colper issued a statement stating that the ruling by the Fourth Chamber demonstrates that the contested acts 'constituted censorship and intimidation of journalists.'"
