Civil Police open inquiry against Metrópoles journalist

"The State Department of Criminal Investigations (Deic, for its acronym in Portuguese), of the Civil Police of São Paulo, opened an inquiry to investigate journalist Luiz Vassallo, reporter for Metrópoles, after the publication of reports about the assets of Delegate Fábio Pinheiro Lopes, former head of the agency responsible for the investigation.

Known as Fábio Caipira, the delegate was removed from his position as director of Deic last December, after being one of the authorities accused of receiving bribes from Vinícius Gritzbach, the whistleblower for the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) who was murdered at Guarulhos Airport in November 2024. The inquiry into this case was shelved in March of this year.

Last Tuesday (June 3), the Metrópoles journalist was summoned to 'provide clarifications' at the 2nd Cybercrimes Police Station of Deic, in the center of the capital, this Thursday (June 5). The notification does not specify the object of investigation nor whether the reporter would testify as a witness or as a person under investigation."
