Protesters blocking road in Bolivia threaten to torch journalists

“Protesters blocking the highway that connects the city of Oruro with the department of Cochabamba intercepted two journalists on Tuesday, June 10, taking their cellphones and threatening to burn them, according to Bolivia’s National Press Association (ANP).

The journalists—Adrián Toro Rojas of the digital outlet El Fulgor and Luis García Cabrera of private TV network ATB—were reporting on the ongoing roadblocks when they were stopped near the town of Pongo in the department of Oruro.

According to Toro’s account to the ANP’s monitoring unit, local residents intercepted the vehicle they were traveling in. “They took my phone and threatened to burn us,” Toro said. He and García had joined a convoy of long-distance transport leaders delivering food aid to truck drivers stranded by the blockade, which had been in place for more than 10 days.”
