"At least 293 Nicaraguan media workers have left their country for security reasons or have been banished since April 2018, according to a report released Thursday [July 10] by the Foundation for Freedom of Expression and Democracy (FLED), part of the regional network Voces del Sur.
The report, titled "Nicaraguan Government Intensifies Harassment and Retaliation Against Relatives of Exiled Journalists," indicates that at least four communicators were forced into exile between April and June.

Likewise, the FLED indicated that in the second quarterly report for 2025, they documented 40 cases of press freedom violations in Nicaragua, 28 of which occurred digitally."
