Two digital media workers are murdered in Mexico within two days, in separate incidents

Last week, two deadly attacks against communicators from local digital media outlets were reported in Mexico.

In the port of Acapulco, in the state of Guerrero, Ronald Paz Pedro, administrator of the NotiExpress news portal, was shot dead on Wednesday, July 9, minutes after making a Facebook broadcast about a street sinkhole. Paz, a former municipal police officer, had been covering citizen complaints and local violence for years, even without professional training as a journalist.

Two days earlier, in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora state, during live reporting of an armed attack, a reporter from news portal Noticias 644 realized that one of the fatal victims of the attack had been his own boss, Ángel Sevilla, director of the news site. In the video and while in shock, the reporter questioned the work of security forces at the scene.
