Salvadoran Journalists Association records 314 attacks on press professionals to date in 2025

"The Monitoring Center of the Association of Journalists of El Salvador (APES, for its acronym in Spanish) recorded a total of 314 attacks on journalists between Jan. 1 and July 14, 2025, with May being the month with the most violations, with 91.

The figures are cause for concern in the context of Journalists' Day, commemorated every July 31 in El Salvador. The Association said that 'reporting in El Salvador today not only means risking one's freedom, but also facing a systematic pattern of persecution that predicts an even greater escalation against the free press.'
