"Brazilian journalist Breno Altman, founder of the website Opera Mundi, posted on X this Sunday [Oct. 12] that he was indicted by Brazilian Federal Public Prosecutor's Office for anti-Semitism. The decision was made by Prosecutor Maurício Fabretti following a criminal complaint filed by Conib (Israeli Confederation of Brazil). The lawyers for the journalist, who is of Jewish origin, and media professionals claim that the decision violates freedom of expression.
In November 2023, Conib filed a criminal complaint alleging that Altman had published racist, abusive and discriminatory comments. At that time, the São Paulo Court of Justice granted the request to remove the content. The Federal Police opened an investigation but found no crime. Fabretti, however, proceeded with the complaint."
