"From the start of Ecuador’s 2025 national strike on Sept. 22 until Oct. 22, when the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie) announced the end of the protest, Fundamedios — an organization that monitors and defends freedom of expression — reported 46 attacks on the press during the demonstrations. Among the cases were physical and verbal assaults against journalists, as well as the suspension of a community media outlet’s broadcast signal.
On Oct. 12, marches reached Quito, in the Pichincha province, where clashes and repression occurred.
That day, Fundamedios reported at least five attacks on journalists. According to verified complaints cited in a statement from the organization, police and military forces allegedly used disproportionate violence against reporters, who had clearly identified themselves as press while doing their job of informing the public."
