"The National Union of Press Workers (SNTP, by its acronym in Spanish) denounced on Friday, Jan. 30, a new case of a detained journalist, which had not been previously reported. The journalist in question is Pedro Urribarri, a graduate of Santa María University. In its statement, the SNTP detailed that Urribarri was arrested on May 21, 2025, days before the regional elections, and after several transfers, is currently being held in Yare II prison, located in the Simón Bolívar municipality of Miranda state.
According to the organization, the journalist 'is facing trial for the alleged crimes of conspiracy and incitement to hatred.' The SNTP added that with Pedro Urribarri's case, the number of journalists and media workers detained in Venezuela remains at six. The others are Juan Pablo Guanipa, Rory Branker, Deivis Correa, Jonathan Carrillo, and Marifel Guzmán."
