The repeal bill is part of the labor reform promoted by the ruling party, La Libertad Avanza. The government argues that the law needs modernization and has announced that it will be addressed in extraordinary sessions in February.

Argentina is experiencing a sustained increase in attacks by security forces on demonstrations, indirect censorship, litigation, mass layoffs and digital harassment campaigns promoted by official sources. One of the most serious cases was that of photographer Pablo Grillo, who was directly hit in the head by a tear gas canister while covering a pensioners' protest in March 2025. On that day, when an anti-protest protocol was in place, at least 20 cases of police violence against journalists were documented."
