Colombia sets rules for fund supporting women journalists facing gender-based violence

“As a pool of resources aimed at preventing, protecting and assisting journalists who are victims of gender-based violence, the ‘No Es Hora de Callar’ Fund was created. At an event held Monday, March 30 — attended by El Tiempo’s gender editor and founder of No Es Hora de Callar, Jineth Bedoya Lima; Minister of Equality Luis Alfredo Acosta; and Vice Minister for Women Támara Ospina — officials announced the fund’s regulatory framework, which also supports press freedom.

The government formalized the regulations through Decree 277 of March 18, 2026, a measure considered key to protecting women journalists in Colombia. The move comes amid weeks in which public debate has centered on sexual harassment in newsrooms and other workplaces.

‘The Fund should not replace the State’s obligation to guarantee the physical safety of those who report — not only women. But it will serve as a bridge to document cases and submit them to the appropriate authorities so those measures can be effective and immediate,’ Bedoya Lima said during the press conference presenting the decree.”
