Brother of killed Honduran journalist threatened

Carlos Alberto Medina Polanco, brother of killed Honduran journalist Héctor Fransico Medina Polanco and himself a journalist, claimed he has been receiving death threats in San Pedro Sula, reported the organization C-Libre.

Medina Polanco, who worked for a radio station in San Pedro Sula, said the cellphone message threats warned him to stop investigating his brother's May 10, 2011, killing.

Medina announced to the newspaper El Heraldo that he has stopped working for the radio station after intimidating motorcyclists followed him several times after leaving work. He also reported to the National Criminal Investigation Office (DNIC in Spanish) that unknown men kidnapped his 16 year-old daughter for several hours where they beat and interrogated her.

Medina said the police refuse to offer his family protection, despite the threats and aggressions, reported El Tiempo.

Family members complained that three months after Medina's brother, a reporter for the cable channel Omega Visión, was killed in the city of Morazán in Yoro, Honduras, the DNIC has not released the results of its investigation and no one has been charged for the crime.
