With the recent increase in popularity of mobile technology, the percentage of people getting their news from mobile devices such as iPads, tablets, and e-readers, is also on a steady incline. Consequently, not only is the number of readers using these devices as gateways for daily news increasing, but also the percentage of news circulation, overall, is on the rise, according to new research from the Pew Internet and American Life Project released April 5. Research shows that 41% of tablet owners and 35% of e-reader owners say they read more news since the advent of e-content.
A recent Nielson study of “Internet connected devices” shows that news is now the number one content accessed on iPads, leading over both music and books. With 44% of iPad users having said they regularly access the news via the device, the numbers are now at an all-time high.
Newspapers draw bigger audiences online than they do in print, reported the Pew Research Center. As newspaper circulation in the United States continues to drop , the use of mobile technologies has become the new alternative. Meanwhile, according to the Pew report, reading in general is up thanks to the rapid spread of tablets and e-readers.
