Two jailed Cuban journalists start hunger strike

Two of the four Cuban dissident journalists that remain in prison have begun a hunger strike, Reporters without Borders (RSF) reports.

Pedro Argüelles Morán and Albert Santiago du Bouchet are protesting the government’s stipulation that they must join their formerly imprisoned colleagues in exile if they are to be freed.

For their health, RSF has asked the journalists to stop striking, but the group called on the government “to listen to reason and recognize that those journalists still in jail have the inalienable right to live in their own country and to exercise their right to inform there.”

Cuban political prisoner Orlando Zapata Tamayo died after an 85-day hunger strike in 2010.
