"Five days after his arrest, José Rubén Zamora, director of elPeriódico, was transferred to the Torre de Tribunales to make his first statement. The Public Prosecutor's Office has declared the case reserved, to the extent that the journalist's lawyers barely had access to the file last Tuesday.
In the first instance, the hearing for the first statement was scheduled for last Monday, but it was suspended and this Wednesday the Seventh Criminal Judge, Fredy Orellana, decided to suspend the reservation for the case.
The cancellation of the hearing was, according to several social organizations and other sources, a strategy to keep in jail the journalist, president and founder of the news outlet El Periódico, one of the most critical voices towards the government of Alejandro Giammattei."
