Police authorities say they'll investigate charges that members of an anti-riot squad in Cali (western Colombia), beat reporters and photographers who were covering a Labor Day protest, RCN radio reports.
Photojournalists Carlos Ortega of EFE, and Cristian Escobar of the Associated Press, and journalists from Caracol Televisión and Cable Noticias presented a formal complaint saying they were attacked while doing their jobs, El Tiempo says.
The Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP) also reported that an independent Spanish journalist was violently attacked in Bogotá and condemned the continuing by security forces against journalists doing their jobs.
A local police official said a "misunderstanding" among the officers occurred, RCN says. However, the journalists said they were attacked by blows and fists by police who wanted to stop them from photographing the disturbances, El Mundo adds.
