"Cuba published a new version of its bill of Law of Social Communication that will continue to subordinate freedom of the press to socialist ideology.
The new version 'shows the debates that have taken place between the most reactionary sector and the reformists' within the Cuban government, said Eloy Viera Cañive, a Cuban lawyer and journalist based in Canada, in a conversation with Radio Televisión Martí.
The expert, one of the coordinators of the independent media El Toque, said that some understood that the original project 'favored glasnost,' a policy of a more open consultative government and a greater diffusion of information, initiated in 1985 by Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev."
