State security agents arrested independent journalist Yosvani Anzardo Hernández for several hours in San Germán, Holguín, and threatened to jail him for his political activism, Cubanet and Radio Martí report.
Anzardo, editor of the independent newspaper Candonga, tells Radio Martí that he was accused during his interrogation of making anti-governmental propaganda. He believes the arrest was an attempt to pressure him psychologically.
Meanwhile, the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) condemned the sudden conviction of journalist Dania Virgen García, the first blogger imprisoned in the Americas. In her blog created in January, García reports on the repression of other independent journalists on the island.
She received a sentence of one year and eight months and becomes the only female journalist imprisoned in Cuba, where 25 male journalists are behind bars. IAPA says García was sentenced on charges that have not been made known, and that Cuba's official press has not reported on her case.
In a message posted on Twitter on Monday (April 26), Cuba's most famous blogger Yoani Sánchez says, "Hard times are arriving for me, all my friends warn. I'm preparing my soul and body for the worst."
