The Poynter Institute and the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) have joined forces to launch the online, multilingual platform News University International that will offer interactive, self-directed courses for journalists, bloggers, journalism students and others in the media.
The first News University International courses available will be offered in Persian and focused on multimedia storytelling, and Russian courses will begin soon. Poynter and ICFJ will continue supporting and seeking funding for other courses in Spanish, Arabic, and Chinese. Questions or ideas for funding should be directed to info@newsu.org.
The News University International is an expansion of Poynter's NewsU that, started in 2005, now has more than 170,000 registered users.
"NewsU International has the potential to reach journalists whether they're in Tehran or Tijuana," said ICFJ President Joyce Barnathan in a statement. "We can successfully use digital technology to offer quality journalism courses practically anywhere in the world."
