“The Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (Abraji) has condemned federal lawmaker Júlia Zanatta (PL-SC) for intimidating and discrediting journalism student and intern Matheus Bastos, who works at the outlet ND+. Zanatta devoted a 17-minute livestream solely to exposing and insulting him.
The attack followed the publication of a news article authored by Bastos that quoted Zanatta’s remarks in an interview about a recent report from Brazil’s national statistics agency, IBGE, on migration to the state of Santa Catarina.
In the livestream, the congresswoman repeated the same insult 25 times, while displaying the student’s photo and social media account. She also reportedly contacted his supervisors in an attempt to discredit him professionally.”
