"The Shadow Report 2021, produced by Voces del Sur (VdS), a partner of the Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (Abraji), is now available in Portuguese. The publication, originally released in Spanish, exposes the violations to freedom of expression and press freedom, and the right to access information in 14 Latin American countries, including Brazil.

The general scenario drawn by the research is one of setbacks: over the past year, 4,931 situations of violence against the press were registered in Latin America by the member organizations of the network. This number represents an increase of 47% compared to the 3,350 episodes in 2020. In 72% of the cases, the aggressors are connected to the State. 11 countries involved in the study filed alerts of gender-based violence against communication professionals."
