Abraji questions government of São Paulo about restrictions on journalists during favela eviction

"Abraji reported that it contacted Governor Tarcísio de Freitas and the Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo, Guilherme Derrite, by means of an official letter, to repudiate and demand action regarding allegations of restrictions on press freedom during coverage of the eviction of the Moinho Favela, in the capital.

Last week, this Association and society became aware that the Military Police prevented the press from working in the Moinho Favela. Journalists were prevented from covering the eviction and even from speaking to the affected families, who had already given permission for interviews.

[...] [...] Videos released on Ponte Jornalismo's social media show that, on May 14, reporters were accompanied and authorized by residents, but that police blocked the entrance. A photojournalist was even approached by police after taking a photograph."
