Article 19 Mexico denounced a smear campaign against independent journalist Reyna Haydee Ramírez in response to her questioning of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador during his morning press conference on Dec. 13.
According to the freedom of expression organization, the journalist received a series of coordinated digital attacks after her questions to the president. The organization pointed out that these types of actions violate the free exercise of the right to freedom of expression and have an inhibitory effect on the press.
"This is not the first time that the journalist has been a victim of smear campaigns against her. On July 21, 2022, Reyna Haydee expressed her opinion and disagreement with the stigmatization and violence exercised against the press by those in power, which unleashed a series of attacks against her," Article 19 Mexico said.
