"The press freedom organization Article 19 registered 403 aggressions against independent journalists and activists in Cuba in 2022, 81% committed by the Department of State Security (DSE), as exposed in the report 'Silence and exile: The forced exile of independent journalists in Cuba.'
State violence against any critical voice is not new on the island, but [the report] shows the intensification of this violence and how it has worsened particularly against critical expressions of the arts, journalism or human rights community," Leopoldo Maldonado, regional director for Mexico and Central America of Article 19, said at the report's virtual presentation, reported EFE.
Of the 403 documented aggressions against journalists and freedom of expression activists, mostly arbitrary detentions and house arrests, state agents and the police were responsible for 330."
