"The COVID-19 pandemic and last year's social protests have increased the repression of the Cuban State against journalists and activists, especially women, denounced the Mexican NGO Article 19 on Jan. 18.
According to the report 'The paper democracy,' this collective in defense of the freedom of the press registered on the island in the first half of 2021 a total of 656 attacks against 84 journalists, activists, defenders of human rights and artists. Of them, 49% turned out to be independent media communicators."
