At least 185 journalists have left Nicaragua since 2018 due to aggressions by Daniel Ortega's regime

"At least 185 Nicaraguan journalists have gone into exile for security reasons since April 2018, when demonstrations against the regime presided over by Daniel Ortega broke out, according to a report released on Monday [April 10] by the regional network Voces del Sur.

'In the first quarter of 2023, we learned that seven journalists were forced into exile due to the constant harassment and intimidations they suffered. Voces del Sur has entered into the system a total of 185 journalists who have left Nicaragua since 2018,' stated the regional network in a quarterly report.

In the report, entitled 'Press freedom in Nicaragua without respite: Ortega does not cease attacking,' that organization documented a total of '14 alerts of cases of violations of press freedom, which translated to 38 cases,' between last January and March."
