"According to the National Association of Journalists of Peru (ANP, for its initials in Spanish), at least 150 attacks on journalists and media outlets have been recorded in the first half of the year alone, including the murders of journalists Gastón Medina in Ica and Raúl Celis in Iquitos.
In the first few months of the year, up to the first week of July, an average of 150 attacks were recorded, with at least five violent incidents, threats and attacks against journalists and media outlets [each week].
'We are outraged that, despite the fact that two journalists have been murdered in this country in 2025, we cannot understand why the police refuse to receive a report of this nature and practically tell you they have to attempt your life first. It's been eight years since a journalist was murdered in Peru, and this year there have been two,' Zuliana Lainez, president of the ANP, told El Comercio."
