Attacks by drug traffickers is a new threat to journalists in Argentina, warns FOPEA

"During 2022, 88 attacks on journalism and freedom of expression were recorded in Argentina, according to the Annual Report of the Freedom of Expression Monitoring carried out every year by the Argentine Journalism Forum (Fopea, by its Spanish acronym). The figure marked a decrease of 18.52% in relation to 2021, when 108 cases were recorded.

(...)

A highlight of the report was the registration of attacks coming from organized crime, taking into account that in 2021 no events of this type had been recorded. Specifically, all the events were recorded in Rosario and are linked to drug trafficking and the crime derived from it in that city of the province of Santa Fe.

There are new forms of limitation to freedom of expression, more subtle but equally dangerous in Argentina,' said Paula Moreno, president of Fopea, when presenting the Annual Report of the Monitoring of Freedom of Expression, focusing on the situation in Rosario."
