Award-winning Guatemalan journalist defends right to inform despite repression

“Guatemalan journalist Quimy de León, co-founder of the independent news agency Prensa Comunitaria who was honored this year with an international award by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), said that repression and threats will not make her abandon her work.

'As long as it gives us meaning in life, we will continue to do it,' De León, one of four journalists who will be recognized this Thursday [Nov. 21] with the CPJ's International Press Freedom Award at a gala in New York, said in an interview with EFE."
