He is only 29 years old and has not only led a growing LGBT rights organization in Guatemala, launched a magazine that addresses these issues, won various awards, but is also one of the five winners of the “Journalist of the Year” award from the One Young World (OYW) initiative.
This award each year recognizes young leaders, aged 35 and under, based on the positive social impact of their journalistic work.

“The work that I have done is difficult to recognize because we live in a state that, specifically, does not address these issues and ignores them. So, it felt nice that, at least worldwide, the specific work was recognized, in trying to make journalism more inclusive, better representing voices that have historically been silenced or excluded,” he said in an interview with the Voice of America."
