Bolivia: Journalists demand police to stop attacks against reporters

"Journalists from the department of Santa Cruz, in Bolivia, gathered on Nov. 18 in front of Police Headquarters to condemn attacks by riot police against press workers while covering a civic strike that began on Oct. 22 in this region. A total of 20 cases of aggression against reporters from private and state media were announced.

Carrying signs with slogans such as "Police, comply with the Constitution" and "Commander, resign," reporters from print, audiovisual and virtual media demanded that the police provide guarantees to carry out informational activities.

During the protest, the Association of Journalists of Santa Cruz confirmed the allegation against police officers who had fired tear gas projectiles at the reporters. And that, in other cases, [police officers] had simply observed attacks by pro-government followers against reporters."
