"On Tuesday [Oct. 31], [Brazil's] Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP, for its acronym in Portuguese) launched an exclusive channel for reporting violence against journalists and communicators in the exercise of their profession. The records will be received by the Observatory of Violence against Journalists and Social Communicators, which is coordinated by the National Secretariat of Justice. The ordinance naming the 38 entities representing the Observatory was also signed. The channel can be accessed here."
The National Secretary of Justice, Augusto de Arruda Botelho, explains that the objective of the channel is to have a single national database for complaints and that the Ministry has professionals with expertise to carry out the preliminary analysis and forward them to the correct location. 'The observatory will be able to monitor more closely and hold authorities accountable for the progress of ongoing processes. From the bank it will also be possible to propose public policies, legislative changes and any demands that are necessary,' he states."
